Why your back pain keeps coming back
Most people who come to us with back pain have had it before. Not continuously -- it settles, they get on with life, and then months later it arrives again, usually after something unremarkable like lifting a suitcase or sitting through a long drive.
That pattern is informative. Pain that resolves and returns under similar conditions is rarely a new injury each time. It is the same underlying capacity problem meeting the same load.
The gap between "not hurting" and "recovered"
Back pain usually settles within a few weeks whether or not anything is done about it. That is genuinely good news, and it is also why the cycle continues: the pain stops before the strength, mobility and control that failed have been rebuilt. You feel fine, so you stop doing anything about it, and the next time that load arrives you are exactly where you were.
What actually breaks the cycle
Building enough capacity that ordinary life stops being at the edge of what your back can tolerate. That means loading it progressively rather than protecting it, and continuing for a while after the pain has gone.
If your back pain has come back more than twice, the useful question is not what you did this time. It is what has never been addressed.
