Chronic Pain

Pain that lasts beyond healing time is a different problem from acute injury, and it needs a genuinely different approach to treat well.

Also called:Persistent pain, Long-term pain, Pain that will not settle

What it feels like

  • Pain lasting more than three months
  • Pain that spreads or moves
  • Flare-ups triggered by stress or poor sleep
  • Fear of movement after past experiences

Persistent pain is real pain. It is also not a straightforward readout of tissue damage, and understanding that changes what treatment should look like.
