Back Pain and Sciatica

Most back pain is not a structural problem that needs surgery. It is a movement problem, and movement problems respond to skilled hands-on treatment and the right loading.

Also called:Lower back pain, Slipped disc, Pinched nerve, Lumbago

What it feels like

  • Aching or sharp pain in the lower back
  • Pain radiating down the buttock and leg
  • Numbness or pins and needles in the leg or foot
  • Pain that worsens after sitting or first thing in the morning
  • Difficulty standing straight after bending

Sciatica is a symptom, not a diagnosis. The sharp, travelling pain down the back of your leg means a nerve root is irritated somewhere along its path, and the useful question is always why it is irritated.
