Balance and Gait Disorders
Unsteadiness is treatable. Balance is a trainable skill, and improving it measurably reduces both fall risk and the fear that comes with it.
Also called:Unsteadiness, Walking difficulty, Fear of falling
What it feels like
- Feeling unsteady on uneven ground
- Holding furniture or walls to move around
- Shortened, cautious steps
- Near-falls or a recent fall
- Avoiding going out because of it
People who feel unsteady move less, and moving less makes them less steady. That loop is the real target of treatment.
How we treat it
Therapeutic Exercise
A progressive, individually prescribed exercise programme that rebuilds strength, mobility and control so improvements hold after discharge.
Fall Prevention
A structured assessment of balance, strength and gait, followed by training that measurably reduces the risk of a fall and the fear of falling.
Vestibular Therapy
Targeted retraining of the balance system for dizziness, vertigo and unsteadiness, including repositioning techniques for common inner-ear causes.
Physical Therapy
A full evaluation, a diagnosis you can understand, and a treatment plan built for your body and your goals rather than a generic protocol.
Orthotics
Custom and off-the-shelf foot orthotics prescribed after a full gait assessment, addressing how your foot loads rather than only how it looks.
